1955 – Kepler’s Books is founded by Roy Kepler.
1960’s/1970’s – The store quickly becomes a counterculture meeting point in the 60’s and 70’s, frequented by beat writers, intellectuals, and rock/folk musicians. The Grateful Dead, whose members are customers and met in Kepler’s Books, plays some live gigs in the store from time to time.
1980 – Roy Kepler’s son, Clark, takes over management.
1990 – Kepler’s Books is named “Bookseller of the Year” by Publishers Weekly.
2005 – Kepler’s closes its doors in August 2005… only to reopen on October with the support of the local community and donations.
2008 – The Children’s department wins a Pannell Award.
2012 – The Kepler 2020 initiative is launched, aiming to transform the bookstore into an innovative, next-generation cultural center.
